I am on orthodontist working at the Rush Craniofacial Center in Chicago. I have the opportunity to treat many children born with cleft lip and palate. The protocol of care for our cleft patients includes the use of Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM) in infancy, prior to the lip repair. Therefore, I see many infants under three or four weeks of age. In the past many of the babies undergoing NAM had improved feeding due to the appliance occluding the cleft. However, some of them still had colic as a result of swallowing excess air during the feeding process. Because of this, our Center’s Nurse Practitioner, Nicole Heller and myself, researched other bottles and started to use Dr. Brown’s® special feeding bottles with tremendous success. Our patients eat with less effort and the parents report no episodes of colic. This positive experience with the use of Dr. Brown’s® bottles has prompted our hospital pediatric unit to consider these bottles for premature and newborn babies. I will highly recommend the use of these bottles as improved feeding, means good growth, and ease of care by the parents. Thank you very much to Dr. Brown’s® Medical for facilitating infant feeding with your great products.
